Family album, Fort Saint Michael, Alaska, 1914-1916.

The Family Album, Fort Saint Michael, Alaska, consists of one photograph album with 398 photographs dating from 1914 through 1916. It documents the travel of an unnamed family, consisting of "Mother," Lura, Effie, and "I" (a soldier), to Saint Michael, Alaska, aboard the ship Buford in June of 1914, and subsequent activities of Effie and "I" in Saint Michael and vicinity. The bulk of the photographs were taken at the Fort Saint Michael military post, as well as in the town of Saint Michael and the surrounding area. They depict professional and social activities of military personnel and their families, and include members of the 30th Infantry and Company D, 14th Infantry, as well as members of Company B, 14th Infantry, from Fort Gibbon. Other photographs include images of Native Alaskans from the Saint Michael area, reindeer herding activities, Fort Gibbon, telegraph stations at Golsovia and Old Woman, and hydraulic mining.
